Supporting Diversity in the Classroom Conference
October 1, 2010

The Panhandle Autism Society (PAS) is presenting a training conference “Supporting Diversity in the Classroom”.  This one day conference will be held October 1, 2010 at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’ Alene, ID.  Clock hour credits and CEUs are available.  Teachers, therapists, parents, counselors and developmental agency staff are all encouraged to attend.

Dr. Tyler T. Whitney, Clinical Director for Intermountain Center for Autism and Child Development in Meridian, ID is the morning keynote speaker and will be speaking on Understanding and Supporting Older Teens with Asperger’s Disorder/Higher Functioning Autism.  Participants will increase their understanding of instruction in the student’s area of strength and improve their recognition of student differences, needs based programming and individualized instructional adaptations.

The afternoon breakout sessions include “Advocating for Diversity” by Elizabeth Mathes, MA, “Is Your Child the Target of Bullying?” by Suzie Sarcello-Depew of IPUL and “Behavior Supports in the School - What to Request for Your Student” by Dr. Beverly Benge.
